The Area
Jutting off Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast, the Osa Peninsula is a primitive paradise of rain forests, empty beaches, and backwater settlements.
The LFL camp and hatchery is situated on the North West stroke of this rugged land. The camp is 1-1 1/2 hike from Drake Bay (or 10 minute speedboat ride) and the hatchery (located by Rio Claro) is located 2-2 1/2 hike from Drake Bay (or 15 minute speedboat ride). San Josecito beach is a 20 minute walk from the hatchery which receives day trippers from Cano Island which is famed for its diverse marine life.
Directions
Leg 1: From San Jose or Quepos
There is a daily TRACOPA bus service that runs direct from San Jose (streets 14-16, Av.5) to Sierpe costing $12. It departs at 8.30am and takes approx 6 hours. The bus travels through Quepos (near Manual Antonio) so there is opportunity to leave from Quepos should you be visiting Manual Antonio. Spaces can fill quickly so buy your ticket in advance. Leg 2: From Sierpe
The bus drops you off by the river front. Take the daily 3.30/4pm collectivo boat and ask the captain to drop you off at either Drake (if you plan on spending a few days there prior to joining LFL) or Moringa beach where a member of LFL will meet you. The boat costs $20 and takes approx 1.15hrs swerving through mangroves of Sierpe River and eventually the beautiful and rugged Osa coastline.
Please note: The boat will disembark on the beach, therefor your feet will get wet - bring some sandals.
